Our All School Movie Field Trip to Admiral is coming up on Nov. 20th!

To celebrate our students' hard work and success of surpassing our goal for our Move-A-Thon, we will be taking an ALL SCHOOL field trip over to the Admiral Theater for a movie party. The students will be voting on a selection of movies: G Rated for grades K-3, PG for grades 4-5.

We need volunteers to help get our kids down to the theater, snacks handed out and safely back to school after the show. We need A LOT of parent help to make this work. But this can't happen without your help! We need at least two volunteers per grade plus volunteers to pass out snacks and help students find seats.

The PTA will be hosting a school assembly on Wednesday, November 19th with Taproot Theatre’s presentation of Rocks!, a play about bullying prevention and celebrating differences. This event is only for students.

S’mores, stargazing, swimming—Jamie’s family promises him that Camp Obsidian is a hidden gem. And when he makes friends with Casey on the first day, he knows this camp could rock. But when Casey’s jealousy spreads like poison ivy, Jamie gets caught between a rock and a hard place. Is Jamie really being bullied? Or is it all a harmless prank? The other campers and Jasper, the down-to-earth counselor, will leave no stone unturned to make it the best summer ever.

Lafayette will be highlighting our student's creativity as part of the National PTA Reflections Art contest! Ms Bajaj & the PTA will be working with your students to create visual arts pieces inspired by this year's theme "Accepting Imperfection." K-2 will be working with Ms Bajaj on their pieces in the classroom, while Grades 3-5 will be encouraged to complete a piece outside of class.

Lafayette PTA will be accepting entries only in the Visual Arts category this year.

• Works of both fine and design arts are accepted, including but not limited to: drawing, painting in tempera, oil, acrylic, watercolor & t-shirt paints, computer generated art, 2D collage, printmaking, needlework & leather tooling, architectural drawing and models, ceramics, crafts, fashion clothes and jewelry, fiber work, mixed media, and sculpture.

• Reproductions or enlargements of other artwork are not accepted.

• Entries are judged on creative ability and interpretation of the theme.

In addition to PTA business and administrative updates, we will have special guest speakers Cherlynne Crowther (Liberate Disability), Alden Alvarado (Lafayette Tutoring and Advanced Learning), and Karianne Bolma and Brianna Allen (Lafayette Resources Program) to give an overview and answer your questions about educational programs such as:

What do these programs entail? What does the school do? What should you be doing? We understand how confusing these programs can all be, and we want to give our Lafayette Community an opportunity to learn more and ask questions.

The Lafayette Move-A-Thon is a celebration of movement! Our students look forward to actively participating and raising funds to make Lafayette an amazing school! Your contributions support tutors for our students, our garden program, our online reading platform and fun events for the students throughout the year. 

Move-A-Thon Logistics:

Each student has 20 minutes to complete as many laps as they can along with their classmates. Students move at their own pace and complete anywhere from 5/10 laps up to 20/25 laps! You can support your favorite Leopard Learner by contributing a set donation amount or motivate them with a per-mile contribution!

• Please let your student's teacher know if you'll be participating in retakes!

Curriculum Night: Tuesday, Sept 24th

Parents and Guardians, please join us in-person at Lafayette for this year's Curriculum Night to meet with your child’s teacher and learn about what's ahead for this school year. You will not only get to hear about the curriculum, but you will also get to hear about the daily schedule, classroom rules and routines, and ask any lingering questions you may have. Please come in through the front of the school on California Ave. and make your way to the cafeteria. 

*This event is for parents and guardians only because there is so much content to cover. Childcare will not be provided, so please make arrangements for your children. If you cannot attend, your teacher will send a summary and the PowerPoint so you can be filled in on the details.

Developmental Preschool has the same start date as Kinder (Sep 9). Dropoff and pickup will be at the school’s main entrance.

Kindergarten Bell Schedule

Kindergarten School Hours: 7:50 a.m. – 2:20 p.m.
Wednesdays: 7:50 a.m. – 1:05 p.m.

Teachers will greet students on the playground with signs to identify themselves. This is where you will line up every day. Students will be released back on to the playground at the end of the day. Please remember to stay behind the painted white lines at pick up to give everyone space to find their families. Teachers will make sure students in after school care are escorted to their next location. Bring your school supplies with you on the first day!

Tears and Cheers: Lafayette Cafeteria, Sept 9th @ 8:00am-9:00am Kindergarten Parents, please join us after drop-off on the first day of Kindergarten for a cup of coffee, a tissue or a high five, and to get to know the other Kindergarten families. September 4 First day of school for 1st – 12th grade students. Sept. 4 is not an early release Wednesday. Early release will occur every Wednesday except for the first week of school. 

Teachers will greet students on the playground with signs to identify themselves. This is where you will line up every day. Students will be released back on to the playground at the end of the day. Your Lafayette teachers and staff will be hosting a Back to School Teacher Meet and Greet on the playground on Thursday August 29th from 4:30-5:30pm to meet before the start of the new school year!

This event will provide an informal setting for students, parents, and guardians to meet their child's teacher, ask questions, and put names to faces. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to reconnect with old friends and make new ones before the start of the school year.

We look forward to welcoming all our Lafayette families to this exciting event and are eager to kick off the school year on a positive note. See you on the playground!

We want to take advantage of the sunny/dry weather and finish the playground beautification before school starts!

The PTA will be coordinating parent volunteers to help paint some games and images on the blacktop, as well as paint over the graffiti on the murals.

Join us for a fun-filled morning on Sunday, August 18th, from 9:00am to 11:00am, for a Playground Cleanup before the new school year starts.

We are happy to partner with A Cleaner Alki, who will be hosting a Spruced! Cleanup event on the playground for us, as well as a Block Drop in front of the school that day to clean up the surrounding streets!

Bring your enthusiasm, a pair of gloves, and some gardening tools as we work together to spruce up our beloved playground, ensuring a safe and clean environment for all. Buckets, grabbers and bags will be provided by A Better Alki. Feel free to bring hand clippers and loppers and gardening gloves if you'd like.
